Good morning and a blessed Thursday morning to you.

The question I want to pose today is: Is Jesus

omniscient?  With what one examines, what Scripture tells us with regard to the attributes of God, there are several attributes of God.

God is omnipotent. He's all powerful. God is omnipresent. He is present everywhere. The Bible tells us that he is eternal. On and on the list goes. And on that list of the attributes of God, it tells us that God is omniscient; that he knows is all.

Scripture tells us in 1 John 3…

“For God is greater than our hearts and he knows everything.”

Proverbs 15…

“The eyes of the Lord are in every place.”

That's why our text for today can be a little bit confusing.

Mark 13:33

“Jesus said this beware keep alert for you do not know when the time will come.”

What was the time that he was talking about? Well, the time he was talking about was the second coming, when he would come again.

Now look at the verse that precedes that verse

Mark 13:32:

“But about that day or hour no one knows; neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the father.”

Well, that seems rather confusing, doesn't it?  Is Jesus

omniscient or not?  Does Jesus know everything or not?

The Bible tells us in John 21 that “Peter turned to the Lord and said, Lord you know everything”. So here's the key to understanding these two portions of Scripture. Scripture that tells us that Jesus knows everything. And the other, though, that gives that confusing message that Jesus doesn't know the date of the second coming. What's the key? Here the one the John 21 passage that speaks of a time after the Resurrection. The Mark 13 passage is before the resurrection of Christ. Here's the point: prior to the suffering and death of our Lord, the time of what Scripture refers to is his time of humiliation… prior to the suffering and death of the Lord, our Lord did not use his omniscience in an uninterrupted fashion. He didn't.

Is Jesus omniscient? Yes. Jesus Is God in the flesh. And let that be a source of comfort for you, because there is no one who knows you better than the Lord Jesus Christ. If you're married, your spouse doesn't know you better. Children don't know you better. Your best friend doesn't know you better.  No one knows you better than the Lord Jesus Christ. He knows everything. And the one who knows all went to the cross and died for you… paid that sin debt, rose out of the tomb.

Let the omniscience of Jesus be a the source of comfort. For the one that knows all about you knows you as his own.

Gracious Heavenly Father, we give you thanks for this time in your word. Your Word is truth. We praise you, oh Lord, for your omniscience. We praise you for your grace.  We praise you for your mercy. We praise you that you know all about us, and that you know us through the waters of baptism as your own. In Jesus strong and holy name we pray. Amen.

God bless you today. Encourage someone!
